aTP-  Arab tourism portal- Tourism Ministers from Cote D’Ivoire and Seychelles met with the Secretary General of Tourism for Morocco during the closing day of the 1st Morocco Day dedicated to Sustainable and Responsible Tourism in Rabat to discuss the coming COP 22 conference set for November in Marrakech in Morocco.

Tourism Minister Roger Kacou of Cote D’Ivoire and Minister Alain St.Ange, his Seychelles counterpart sat with Nada Roudies, the SG of Tourism for Morocco to listen to the proposal to have a Tourism Ministerial meeting on the sidelines of COP 22 in Marrakech in November.

After the very successful Paris COP Conference last November it will be up to Morocco to set the stage for the continuation of the successes achieved in Paris especially as the coming Marrakech meeting will be talking a lot about finance and funding mechanisms.

Tourism remains the industry that continues to generates employment and one that keeps many economies afloat but that is endangered by climate change and when Governments are not embracing the spirit of sustainable tourism development. It is for this reason that Morocco is proposing a tourism meeting on the sidelines of COP 22 in Marrakech.

Minister Lahcen Haddad, the Minister of Tourism of Morocco this week staged a successful Sustainable and responsible tourism meeting in Rabat in Morocco where he was supported by colleague tourism Ministers coming from Cote D’Ivoire, Seychelles, Kenya, Madagascar and Senegal. Minister Haddad of Morocco shared a podium in front of a packed conference centre with his colleague Ministers to talk sustainable and responsible tourism and the good practices in place today. "We wanted to bring everyone together to think responsible and sustainable tourism in order to sensitise public opinion now that we are but months before COP 22 that will be held in Marrakech" said Minister Lahcen Haddad of Morocco.

In the meeting with Nada Roudies, the SG for Tourism in Morocco both Minister Roger Kacou of Cote D’Ivoire and Minister Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles said that they saw the merit for a Tourism Ministers meeting at COP 22 in Marrakech in November. "Tourism is often seen as the industry that promotes the negative side of protection when in reality tourism is the industry that is today the closest partner of Environment Ministries as it continues to ensure sustainable economic growth that enables protection programs to exist" said Minister Roger Kacou and Minister Alain St.Ange.

The two ministers from Cote D’Ivoire and Seychelles congratulated Nada Roudies, the SG for Tourism in Morocco and her Minister for keeping tourism in the forefront when the world is talking environment and sustainable development and assure Morocco of their support.
