Seychelles says that Subios to remain a "teacher" of our marine world to the younger generation

Almasalla, ATP News- Subios, the Seychelles Festival of the Sea should maintain its role as the "teacher" for young people concerning the island s unique marine environment.

These words were echoed by the Seychelles Tourism Board’s chief executive Sherin Naiken on Friday evening during the launch of the the 2014 edition of the Seychelles’ Festival of the Sea, that has been known for the last 24 years as Subios.

Held at the newly opened business hotel Eden Bleu, the launch was attended by the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange,Chairperson of the Tourism Board Wendy Pierre, the Chairperson of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industries Marco Francis, the Chairman of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association Freddy Karkaria, the  trade partners and delegates who were in Seychelles to attend the IORA, the Indian Ocean Rim Association’s first tourism ministerial meeting.

In her address, Miss Sherin Naiken stated that Subios has earned a well-deserved place in the hearts of the Seychellois People over many decades.
 

"We will do all in our power to inject fresh ideas into this as well as other aspects of its being," she said.
 

Miss Naiken added that Subios will remain a popular fixture on the Seychelles calendar of events and is destined to play a vital role in the marketing of Seychelles as an exceptional holiday destination.

She described Subios as the time for visitors and locals alike to enjoy the wealth of underwater treasures through their five senses.
 

Miss Naiken said Subios has over the years provided Seychelles with a means to educate the public about the magnificence of the island’s marine heritage.

The festival is being remodel in time for its 25th anniversary next year so that it can become more relevant to the needs of the Seychelles tourism industry, and by turning it into an invaluable tool for promoting Seychelles around the globe as an amazing diving destination.

Speaking at the launch, Minister St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture said the mission of Subios when it started 24 years ago was to get Seychelles to appreciate what it has in its marine environment.
 

The initiative to revamp Subios is to keep attaining this mission, the Minister added.

Minister St.Ange said it is vital to echo words of thanks to the diving community, as they also help us to continue to appreciate our ocean’s natural beauty.

"Let us ensure our visitors see this unique underwater setting that we have, and let us keep it clean for our future generations," the Minister added.
 

He said the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, as well as the government will remain committed down the path to keep preserving and conserving the island’s marine world, and that we shall keep on supporting Subios to help the Tourism Board to keep up with the stated mission of this national event
During the ceremony, the delegates of the tourism ministers of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) were presented with a book on the underwater treasures.

The evening ended with famous singer Joe Samy singing Ocean child, a song dedicated to the Subios festival.
 

Guests at the launch had the chance to view an exhibition depicting the evolution of Subios over the the last 24 years.
