Seychelles to host first IORA tourism ministerial meeting
Almasalla, ATP News-Seychelles will host the first Indian Ocean Rim Association tourism ministerial meeting from November 20-21 this year.
The principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune confirmed this during a presentation she gave at the 14th Indian Ocean Rim Association Council of Ministers and senior officials meeting which took place in Perth, Australia from October 6-9, 2014.
Mrs Lafortune was part of a delegation led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam.
She provided the member countries with detailed information about the upcoming event through a presentation of the concept note, administrative note and tentative programme.
The Indian Ocean Rim Association tourism ministerial meeting to be held under the theme – Tourism and Travel within the Indian Ocean Rim Association – will bring together policy makers and stakeholders of the tourism and travel industry, in order to discuss and generate ideas on the possibilities of strengthening and expanding the region’s tourism.
Topics such as emerging markets and networking to increase competitiveness and market promotion, Green Tourism, air connectivity and developing cruise tourism between the islands are expected to be presented by experts in the field.
Minister Adam also took the opportunity of the Council of Ministers’ meeting to make an intervention on behalf of the government of Seychelles to urge member states to take part in the IORA tourism ministerial meeting to be held in November.
The Indian Ocean Rim Association tourism meeting will be a first for Seychelles and for the association.
Tourism Ministers from 19 member states are expected to attend this event which will include a key note address by the Seychelles Minister of Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange.
