The Supreme Council for Antiquities rejected a request by the Post Authority of Portugal via Foreign Ministry to place the picture of Pyramids within a Post Stamp that is to be issued by the Portuguese to include pictures of what is called the “New Seven Wonders of the World”, which is promoted by a Swiss tourism company.
It is scheduled that the result of competition for selection of new wonders to be announced in the city of Lisbon on 7th of July this year.
The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawas said that the rejection of the council is absolutely for any attempts to place pyramids that is regarded the most wonder and the only one remaining from the old seven on the Post Stamp or within a contest aims at commercial purposes with no scientific criteria.
He pointed out that an official letter was sent to the Foreign Ministry to report the position of the Supreme Council for Antiquities to the officials of the Post Authority in Portugal, with taking all literary and material rights in case of placing the pyramids within what is called the new wonders.
The 21 sites candidate for voting in the Swiss contest for obtaining the title of the New Wonders are: “Acropolis Temple in Greece, Al-Ham bra Palace in Grenada Spain, Angkor city in Cambodia, Shishen Etza Pyramid in Mexico, Rescue Jesus statue in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Coliseum building in Rome, Easter Land bodies in Chile, La Tour Eiffel in France, Great Fence of China, Ayah Sofia Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, and Kumises Temple at Kyoto in Japan”
The sites also include Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Macho Bisho city in Peru, Noisgo Einstein Castle in Germany, Petra City in Jordan, Liberty Statue in New York, Stone Hinge features in United Kingdom, Opera House of Sydney Australia, Taj Mahal tomb in India, Tumpokto castle in Mali.
Following a popular and official denial from Egypt the organizers of the contest said that they are excepting Giza Pyramids in Egypt from voting as being one of the old and modern wonders of the world and it can not be competed or compared.
