Seychelles’ dance and music students showcase talents in end of year show
aTP- Arab tourism portal- Some 60 students aged between 7 and 23 years old came together on November the 27 at the National Theatre for their end of year performance organised by the Seychelles Schools of Dance and Music.
The National Conservatoire of Performing Arts, under which the two schools are housed usually has separate concerts throughout the year. The School of Music hosts one in July to showcase their examinations, while the School of Dance shows their best pieces for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), which is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards in the Christmas Show in November.
Both schools have their regular programmes and attract enthusiastic audience from all over island.
This time, it was done jointly and not only to share the stage, but rather to ensure that everything was performed live.
So for the first time, dance students were gyrating to live music played by their fellow music students. Music students had the added opportunity of synchronizing their playing with the dance movements and had to try not to be distracted.
The National Theatre was packed with parents and friends who were enthralled by the much desirable efforts of the students.
Present at the show were the director general for culture Marcel Rosalie and the technical advisor for culture Gabriel Esssack.
Addressing those present, the director of the National Conservatoire Pierre Joseph said the collaboration started in February with the work of Hakan From, a consultant from Midgardskolan of Umea, Sweden.
Mr Hakan From has worked with four bands on a weekly programme to develop the talents and skills of potential music students whose interests are not only in the classical repertoires.
For one year, they have practised a wide range of pop and modern tunes as well as our traditional music, so it was not surprising to hear the crowd cheering to Hotel California, Halo and Madanm Totor to name a few.Much to the pleasure of parents, all participants managed to hit the right notes and did their dance routines without fail.
As a gesture to hand over the school band programme, Mr Hakan From passed over his conductor’s stand to Alisha Ernesta as students bowed their appreciation.
Mr Pierre Joseph thanked all parents, sponsors, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the technical staff at the National Theatre for their support.
