Second Green Globe award for TI’ME Hotels Management

Almasalla Travel News – Ashraf E lgedawy – UAE-based hospitality firm, TI’ME Hotels Management, has proved its commitment to sustainable practices with now its second Dubai property, the Time Grand Plaza Hotel, achieving Green Globe certification.

“Following extensive efforts by management and staff to improve the sustainability of operations across all departments at TI’ME Oak Hotel&Suites, which earned the hospitality group its first Green Globe certification, another one of our properties, TI’ME Grand Plaza Hotel, has now also been awarded the same prestigious sustainability stamp of approval,” said Mohamed Awadalla, Vice President, TI’ME Hotels Management.

Awadalla, who also heads up the company’s “Green Team” which was established to drive sustainability initiatives across the group, added, “This is not only another major milestone for TI’ME Hotels Management with another of our flagship Dubai properties attained Green Globe certification, but also shows our dedication to green hotel policies and the implementation of proactive measures to help protect and sustain the environment for future generations.”

At TI’ME Grand Plaza Hotel, energy-saving practices established include the installation of sensors in guest corridors and in public and staff areas to activate lighting only when required. In addition, on arrival each guest now receives a welcome letter outlining the hotel’s green initiatives.

Both TI’ME properties actively support the community and participate in charitable events, such as the Breast Cancer Awareness Marathon, the Diabetes Fun Run Walkaton, or hosting the Al Noor Fun Day to benefit children with special needs. The staff volunteered at the recent Can Collection Day, organized by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG).

“The ‘Green Team’s’ mission for 2013 at TI’ME Grand Plaza Hotel is to reduce water and energy consumption by 2%, general waste by 2% and CO2 emissions by 2%, all compared to 2012,” explained Mr. Awadalla. “At both properties, we now conduct sustainability awareness training for department managers on a weekly basis and for all staff on a monthly basis in order to ensure that we not only continue to meet Green Globe criteria, but improve wherever possible.”

According to Sandrine Le Biavant, Division Manager, Farnek Consulting, TI’ME Hotels Management demonstrated “total commitment” to the GGC implementation process, with management and staff members at all levels and across all departments actively engaged in the initiative. “Achieving this level of commitment would not have been possible without effective communication between the ‘Green Team’ leading the Green Globe Certification project, department managers and their teams, ensuring that every hotel staff member realized they had an essential role to play in driving sustainability measures.”

The audit for TI’ME Hotels Dubai was conducted by Farnek Avireal, lead sustainability consultancy in the MENA region.
