Survey: British Virgin Islands most expensive destination in the Caribbean
Almasalla Travel News – The British Virgin Islands rank as the most expensive destination in the Caribbean based on the cost of lodging there.
A new survey from CheapHotels.org [ www.cheaphotels.org/press/caribbean2013.html ] made this discovery after comparing the various Caribbean destinations. The amount visitors had to spend to stay in the most affordable resort or hotel room served as the basis of comparison. The time period of focus spanned January to April 2013, which represents the high season for travel to the Caribbean.
Topping the rankings as the most expensive locale according to the survey was Virgin Gorda. In this third largest of the British Virgin Islands, travelers had to spend, on average, US$321 per night to stay.
That figure rendered Virgin Gorda even more expensive than the chic St. Barts, which came in just behind the number two finisher, Anguilla. Securing St. Barts the third most expensive Caribbean destination spot was an average overnight price tag of US$295 for the least expensive room.
Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, ranked sixth on the survey with an average rate of US$217. Just a bit more expensive was St. John, in the neighboring U.S. Virgin Islands. There, the average room went for US$224 nightly.
The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in the Caribbean. The rankings are based on the average rate for the cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel or resort) at each locale for the time period spanning January–April 2013.
