EIBTM’S SEMINAR PROGRAMME MOST COMPREHENSIVE EVER

Delivering one of its key brand values of best professional education, EIBTM 2008 has organised its most comprehensive programme ever, providing highly targeted sessions for all those involved in the meetings industry.

Over the three days – 2 -4 December – through a mixture of presentations, seminars, workshops and networking events, delegates will be be kept fully up-to-date with key issues and trends that affect the industry on a day-to-day basis.


New additions to this year’s programme are two keynote presentations by Maarten Vanneste on the subject of ‘Meeting Architecture’ and Graeme Godrington on ‘Making the Most the Millennial Generation’; Spanish Association workshops and seminars presented in Spanish and ‘Global Meetings Management Masterclass’.

Key highlights include:

Tuesday 2 December

• ‘The Global Marketplace: North American Planner Perspectives’, with a panel of senior Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Meeting Professionals

This interactive session will identify the key challenges North Americans face in doing business with case history examples. Planers will discuss their personal experiences and address the issues that positively and negatively impact their interactions with international suppliers.

• ‘Big Issues, Big Solutions’, moderated by Rod Cameron, Director, Programming and Planning, AIPC

This seminar will tackle major issues such as labour and skills shortage and rising costs, considering what actions are needed to respond to them.

• Launch of the EIBTM 2008 Industry Trends & Market Share Report, presented by Rob Davidson, EIBTM Industry Analyst

Presentation of the 2008 report, highlighting current industry trends affecting the meetings, incentive and business travel sectors.


• Career Strategies in a Changing Workplace, presented by Padraic Gilligan, SITE President & Managing Director Ovation Global GMC

This SITE Young Leaders programme invites all professionals to join an interactive session to share their views of climbing up ‘the career ladder’.

• EIBTM Keynote Presentation by Maarten Vanneste, President and CEO, Abbit Meeting Support: ‘Meeting Architecture – A Manifesto for Change’

How does a meeting or event deliver real value to its stakeholders? Taking you through a rollercoaster of analyses, innovative science, confronting psychology, weird technology, strategy and opportunity, Maarten Vanneste will explore the minefield of Meeting Architecture.

• Technology Hour – ‘Latest Technology Trends Transforming the Events and Meetings Industry’ with Corbin Ball CMP, Corbin Ball Associates, moderated by Patrick Delaney, Managing Director, Ovation Group

Get up to date with emerging technology trends impacting meeting and event planning.

• ‘EIBTM keynote Presentation by Graeme Codrington, co-founder of consultancy company TomorrowToday ‘Making the Most of the Millennial Generation’

Today’s young people – Millennials – have different expectations and attitudes towards work. What do they want? How can the industry attract, retain and engage this audience? This session has some of the answers.

• Spanish Association Programme in conjunction with Korrazza

Workshop and session for meeting planners from Spanish Associations.

Wednesday 3 December

• ‘Sex and the City – Making the Chemistry Work’ in conjunction with IAPCO and EMC

How does a client get the best from a City in which it proposes to stage an event? This session outlines the importance of getting the chemistry right.


• ‘The Living Brand – Taking your MICE Team from Employee to Brand Champion’ presented by Dale Smith, Bridge Training Events

Learn how to move your team from the front line into proactive Living Brands and move words into actions


• ‘The Pharmaceutical Industry – Recession Proof?’ But have you considered the regulatory minefield and constraints when organising such events?’ presented by Simon Cope, Consultant, IncrediBull Ideas

This lecture is aimed at those wishing to learn more about the meeting opportunities within this sector, including events such as Advisory Boards, stand alone Symposia, Congress attendance and ‘closed’ and restrictive educational meetings.

• Global Meetings Management Masterclass

Open to Hosted Buyers and Trade Visitors from corporate organisations, this session will be led by a Global Meetings Manager of a large corporation who has recently implemented a successful EMEA global meeting.

• Meeting Architecture – ‘Designing Meetings for Results’ presented by Maarten Vanneste, Author of ‘Meeting Architecture’ and Dr Elling Hamso, Europe’s leading ROI specialist

What can be done before, during and after a meeting to effectively communicate messages, facilitate networking and inspire and engage an audience?

• Annual EIBTM Technology Debate – ‘Social Networking Sites and Virtual Worlds – Should you be Using them?’ Debaters: Corbin Ball, CMP, Corbin Ball Associates and Laurent Haug, LIFT Conference. Moderator: Patrick Delaney, Managing Director, Ovation Global DMC

Online social software to develop communities is a natural addition to face-to-face meetings but are they a welcome addition?


• EIBTM CSR Symposium presented by The Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) in conjunction with MCI

International planners, suppliers and destinations will outline how they are taking measurable green steps in environmental and social sustainability.




Thursday 3 December

• Technology Hour – ‘Using Technology to Create Interactive Events’ with Sam Smith, ShockFish SA

A panel of technology experts will outline their strategies for implementing technology to create interactive events.

• Repeat session – Launch of the EIBTM 2008 Industry Trends & Market Share Report, presented by Rob Davidson, EIBTM Industry Analyst

A second chance to hear the findings of this report highlighting current industry trends affecting the meetings, incentive and business travel sectors.
