The 2018 Seychelles Regatta concluded on Sunday with Mason’s Travel not only contributing to the sponsorship and organisation of the event, but also to the winning team.

The ISPC/Mouton Cadet/Mason’s Travel team, comprised of mostly Seychellois sailors including Alan Mason, Managing Director of Mason’s Travel and skippered by Frenchman Franck-Yves Escoffier, emerged victorious in a competition that saw eight teams zig and zag their way through a multitude of islands in the Seychelles archipelago.

Combining competitive sailing with the mesmerising beauty of Seychelles’ marine environment, the regatta makes for one of the most intriguing corporate teambuilding events to be found anywhere, according to Mason’s Travel PR, Branding and Communications Manager Nicole Saint Ange.

Mason’s Travel sponsored all ground handling and transfers for the event, while catering company ISPC and renowned wine producer Mouton Cadet handled the onboard catering.

“It was once again our privilege to be associated with the Seychelles Regatta,” St Ange said. “It’s an event that perfectly showcases the experience of discovering Seychelles by sea, providing a completely different perspective of the island. Our business knows first-hand how compelling the Seychelles marine experience is for our visitors, which is why we not only support events such as these but also offer a wide variety of experiences revolving around the ocean.”

The seven-day race brought crews from Mahé to Silhouette, Praslin, Cousine, Fregate and La Digue, before returning to Mahé’s Beau Vallon Bay, where the closing ceremony was held at the La Plage Restaurant.

Each of the eight teams enjoyed the presence of a professional skipper, many of whom boasted international wins in races such as the Vendée Globe and Route du Rhum.

An all-female crew aboard 727 Sailbags, led by skipper Justine Mettraux, finished in second place.

Organised by France-based ‘Publie Voile’ and its general manager, Regis Elhaouel, the Seychelles Regatta was also sponsored by the Seychelles Tourism Board and the Seychelles Yachting Association.

“Although I am sure the Mason’s team is thrilled to have won the competition, the real winner in an event like this is Seychelles tourism as a whole,” Saint Ange said. “Between the footage of the races that portray the islands, and the educational component to show how amazing the sailing experience here can be, it will hopefully generate a newfound excitement about marine-based tourism here.”
