Seychelles beauty queen joins the fight against drug abuse
"By standing together as a nation with determination, we can curb the rise of substance abuse in Seychelles".
Almasalla- Arab Travel Portal News – The Seychelles newly crowned beauty queen said this at a ceremony held last Thursday to mark the end of a four-day resilience relay organised as part of activities to commemorate the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking (June 26).
Miss Camila Estico, Miss Seychelles…. another world 2014 called on the young people of Seychelles to find their purpose in life, believe in a dream and follow it until the end; no matter what their dream is.
“Dedicate yourself to a healthy lifestyle rooted in deep spiritual meaning with strong moral values that you have inherited from your parents, guardians and the society as a whole. Then and only then, is when drug will never be an option in your life,” Miss Seychelles…another world 2014 said.
“Drug usage and abuse is not a solution to one’s problem. On the contrary, drugs only aggravate one’s life situation and eventually lead to total destruction. Substance abuse stands in the way of someone to achieving his or her purpose in life. Do not let yourself be a victim.” the Seychelles Beauty Queen went on to say.
Miss Camila Estico urged those that life may not be easy for them and who think that drug usage is the way out to strive to be on the positive side of life by keeping away from the influence of substance abuse. “If you are fortunate to be alive, God has a purpose for you. Believe and have the faith that no mountain shall be too high to climb in rising above one’s difficulties to the promise of a better future,” she said.
“It is a reality that we all face difficulties in life and sometimes it may prompt us to give up. But turning to drugs is not the solution. Believe in yourself that you will rise above your difficulties if you face life with a positive attitude.”Miss Seychelles… another world 2014 went on to say.
The four-day activity held under the theme – "Pa les drog pran control" – was organised by Campaign for Awareness, Resilience and Education against substance abuse (Care) since June 23 where the relay started on La Digue. The relay baton went to Praslin before going to schools around Mahe and lastly ending at the Mont Fleuri secondary school on Thursday, where students read messages pertaining to resiliency against drugs and the theme for the activity.
Present at the ceremony were Designated Minister Vincent Meriton who is also the chairperson of Drug and Alcohol Council and of the National Social Renaissance committee, Health Minister Mitcy Larue, leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly David Pierre, ambassador for Women and Children’s Affairs Dr Erna Athanasius, Care’s chairperson Sarah Rene among other high government officials, partners, teachers and students.
Addressing those present, Minister Meriton called on students to lend a hand in helping to keep drugs away from the communities.
He congratulated the young people who are devoted to the cause of fighting against drug abuse. Mrs Rene also saluted the young people who were present for their engagement in joining this fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
