Seychelles set to receive the Düsseldorf Carnival for the April 2014 Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival
Almasalla Travel News – A news release published in EXPRESS.DE of Germany has confirmed that the known and very popular Düsseldorf Carnival is set to be back in Seychelles next April to fly the German Flag and participate in the 2014 edition of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival.
The Press Release states: “Last year a delegation from Düsseldorf celebrated in the carnival in Seychelles for the first time. This year they could unfortunately not participate as the carnival in Seychelles was celebrated at the same time as the one in Düsseldorf .
The ‘Jecken’ as the participants are known were really missed in Victoria, the capital of the paradise island of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.
Rolf Herpens, Vice President of the Düsseldorf carnival committee is in contact with the Seychelles Minister of Tourism and Culture H.E. Alain St.Ange. “He would have liked us to participate this year, but because that was not possible Minister St.Ange suggested that we sent our costumes to the Seychelles. Seychellois could have worn them and celebrated in the parade.
A great idea, but we needed the costumes ourselves” stated Mr Herpens. “But we will celebrate in their carnival next year, as green light was given by all involved. So that we don’t have an issue with dates again, Victoria will celebrate its carnival 2014 later, April 25 – 27.” Mr Herpens reveals.
Düsseldorf is the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and centre of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region with 11.5 million people.
Düsseldorf is known to have a long history in carnivals.
