ATP-  Arab tourism portal- PETALING JAYA- Malaysia s civil aviation ties with Europe have been strengthened with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC).

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the cooperation would allow Malaysia and Europe to work more closely together to create a safe and efficient international civil aviation sector.

“Through this cooperation arrangement, we look forward to greater collaboration on all matters related to international civil aviation, in particular safety, talent development, regulation, accident investigation, security and the environment,” said Liow in a statement from Strasbourg, France, where he attended the two-day 34th Plenary Session of the ECAC which ended yesterday.

He said the partnership would allow for the sharing of knowledge on aviation trends, greater participation in international events and meetings as well as the joint organization of initiatives and training activities.

He said the agreement would help catalyse socio-economic growth opportunities between Malaysia and Europe. “Malaysia looks forward to the creation of a sustainable ecosystem that promotes our common vision for a safe and efficient international civil aviation sector,” added Liow.

The minister said Malaysia was given the honor of addressing the ECAC plenary session.“During my address at the plenary session, Malaysia called on ECAC’s support in our call for real-time global tracking, longer lasting batteries in black boxes and mandatory sharing of information between the International Civil Aviation Organization, its member states and the airline industry.“We also urged for ECAC to work hand in hand with ICAO on this matter,” he said.
